Description of the flags

The previous green flag background has been changed to red sometime between 2001 and 2007. The emblem is kept centered and large, with two relevant changes considering the previous flag: A hammer replaced the quill and the main emblem is not anymore on a red pentagon, rather hanging on the seal background. There are two slight variants on line both being flat flag depictions (no photos); Im quite sure that actual flags will show even more variations.

Partido Socialista de Timor (PST) seems to have a new flag.
J. Patrick Fischer, 17 May 2012

The flag is a ~1:2 red flag with a black hoist stripe (width approx. 1/8 of the flag) with a yellow party emblem on the red area, shifted to the hoist, and white lettering (set in white sans serif upper case letters) spelling large "PST" on the hoist stripe, vertically with each letter pointing down, and the party name on the red area, on one line middle to fly. The emblem is quite different from the previous, showing three (five-pointed upright regular) stars set in an equilateral triangle, two of them on a vertical axis and the third off to the fly, enclosing a hammer over what seems to be an eclipsed sun.

Earlier version in official leaflet

The ballot paper and the [t9l07] booklet show the emblem/seal made of black lines and letters, and stylized fist, hammer and spear, all on a squarish ~3:4 background. This design also at the ETAN official website.

Version at the parliament website

At the parliament website (image) and at the the ETAN official website shows the emblem/seal made of white lines and letters, and with a realist depiction of the fist, hammer and spear. (On a conjectural 2:3 red background. Im not fully sure that this is a flag design rather than just a logotype, although almost all other such designs, at the the parliament website, are flags.

Yet earlier flag

PST flag image by Jorge Candeias, 05 January 2000

Socialist Party of Timor: green flag with a circular badge centered. The symbol in the flag is a simplified version of the complete symbol, which consists of a white seal with "UNIDADE ACÇÃO PROGRESSO E IGUALDADE" and "PST" in an outer arc and "PARTIDO SOCIALISTA DE TIMOR" in an inner arc and an hexagon in the center, red with a golden star, a closed fist, a pen and a spear. I made the image above using this complete symbol.

Presentation of P.S.T.

I have seen P.S.T. demonstrators waving the red flag with black triangle. They seem quite comfortable with the similarities between this flag and the flag of FRETILIN
Jorge Candeias, 10 August 1999

P.S.T. got 6483 votes in the 2001.08.30 elections (1,78%), receiving 1 of 88 seats in the parliament, where it is the largest of the very small parties.
António Martins, 22 September 2001

In the 2007.06.02 elections P.S.T. got 3982 votes (0,96%) and no seats, falling passing the 3%. Though this fact, PST-general secretary Avelino Coelho da Silva was appointed by new PM Xanana Gusmo as new secretary of state for energy. (Secretary of state is in TL a lower degree than minister, not like in USA).
J. Patrick Fischer, 09 September 2001

A new party, the Democratic Progressive League is announced to have been created in June 2007 joining all six smaller parties which received no seats in the Parliament. No news for now about an emblem or flag.
